Unknown Speaker 0:36
u and v, jazz and more. Good morning my man, good morning. Man, good let's start with our sip of coffee. Oh yeah,

Unknown Speaker 0:45
oh yeah, that's it.

Unknown Speaker 0:49
Here we go again. Here we are once again into the breach, my friend.

Unknown Speaker 0:54
We are fully ensconced

Unknown Speaker 0:58
to the the holiday season here, little late this year because of the time of Thanksgiving, right? Thanksgiving, really late, you know, in the month. I mean, obviously we know it's like the third, the fourth, or it's always the fourth week, the fourth Thursday. That's the nature of the calendar. It just falls, you know, right up against the beginning of December. Yeah, well, by the time this airs so for the folks that may not know, this is pre taped, and this is, this is the night before the I'm sorry, the morning, we're in the morning, the morning before,

Unknown Speaker 1:38
it's Wednesday, around 10am little after pacific time here bijons in Boston.

Unknown Speaker 1:47
So we're getting prepared for Thanksgiving tomorrow, right? And by the time this airs,

Unknown Speaker 1:54
we hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving

Unknown Speaker 1:59
and didn't hurt yourself too much on the Black Friday sales extravaganza. Hopefully none of you were camped out

Unknown Speaker 2:07
next to a Best Buy or something like that. Yeah, that that, I won't get started. That's a weird that's just

Unknown Speaker 2:16
not

Unknown Speaker 2:18
for me. Yeah, but we are ensconced in the holiday season, wrapping stuff up for the year. Chance to once again reflect on the the amazing year that was 2024

Unknown Speaker 2:30
had a great year this year.

Unknown Speaker 2:32
Yeah, it seemed to move pretty quick, which isn't which is not cool, but All right,

Unknown Speaker 2:40
yeah, because you did quite a few

Unknown Speaker 2:43
things this year, right? Well, you kind of have your little schedule every year now, for the most part, I do. I've got a, you know, I've the relationships I've built over the years, yeah, you know,

Unknown Speaker 2:56
things like the jazz cruise, and there's a few things I do with Jazz at Lincoln Center that happen around the same time every year that I get called to participate in as a educator, mentor, performer type thing. Yeah? So, yeah, those things happen. And of course, you know, being a professor now, Yep, got that schedule? Yeah? So there's definitely, so there's, there's definitely a lot of things that happen on a regular basis, but there's always room for some change in the action well. And you have your trade shows that you kind of seem to, you know, right? The conferences I hit, yes, yeah, Midwest clinic and yeah,

Unknown Speaker 3:37
which definitely

Unknown Speaker 3:39
each year I get a little bit more involved in international trumpet guild. Yeah, yeah. All that the ITG, yep, of course. Well,

Unknown Speaker 3:50
you know, it's just, you've been around, you've been around, no, all I'm doing. I mean, you've been around it too long. I'm just making fun of every company thing. Now, it's like, just, no, wait a minute. Wait, you can't glass houses and all. Brother, you got all kinds of stuff

Unknown Speaker 4:06
I know to deal with too. You just rather not speak on it. You know me, though I'm a walking contradiction. It's like a thing I do. You know, I think sting said it best, charm. It's probably just charm. Sting said it best years ago. Contradiction is proof of your that you're thinking, so I'll buy it. He was selling that one at one point in an interview. I'm like, All right, it's trash, but I'll buy it. Yeah, I'll buy it's fine,

Unknown Speaker 4:36
you know. But in in all seriousness, so you know, definitely wrapping stuff up

Unknown Speaker 4:43
as entrepreneurs and business owners that we are, yeah, it's that time of year as well to shut things down, yeah, moment and regroup, evaluate, etc. So yeah, all that, all that, and we are.

Unknown Speaker 5:00
Are in the midst of that as well, which is cool, well,

Unknown Speaker 5:05
but at least we're to we hope that we learn from things in the past and make it a little bit easier the next time. So I think, I think we've, we're a little more prepared this year. I think I would say, for me personally, this right, right now, I've been going into a deep dive of just a lot of being, being grateful, a lot of gratefulness going on. You know, it's just thinking about things in my life. And some things go as you plan. Some things don't, but either way, at the end of the day,

Unknown Speaker 5:37
I've got my health, I've got my the love of my friends, and it's like, that's

Unknown Speaker 5:44
important,

Unknown Speaker 5:47
and we also are going to have our annual

Unknown Speaker 5:51
holiday dinner, or our annual dinner that We have We are

Unknown Speaker 5:59
big old, big old, big

Unknown Speaker 6:02
old, big old.

Unknown Speaker 6:05
We haven't picked, we haven't picked the steak house this year, but we, I know choices we're going to hit yeah and really indulge and have a nice bottle of wine and then debrief, decompress a little bit. Yeah, maybe even a stogie nice cigar, yeah, might have a stick, a night stick. Yeah, right, yeah.

Unknown Speaker 6:26
All about it. Do some adulting. What was that scotch? When you were here last, when we did the Smith Center show in September, we you introduced me to a nice scotch, the McAllen the McAllen 12. You never thought you would drink scotch until you had that, the McAllen 12 now, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's pretty smooth. It's nice that I can imagine with a cigar and, or, you know, me and my Dijon cloves old school night, you know, 80s my clothes is like, Oh yeah, perfect. The perfect. So that's what we're gonna do then, yeah? Done and dusted. Dusted. Yeah, little Macau, little stick patio, yep. So people wonder, how the heck do these guys know each other, talking shop, talking smack? Well, it is kind of an interesting thing. Anytime for years when you and I separately, it's different. But when you and I are walking together

Unknown Speaker 7:21
into any venue, into any

Unknown Speaker 7:24
live together. It's, it's, um,

Unknown Speaker 7:29
we somehow turn heads. And there's a, there's an energy that you and I, I don't know it's an extra confidence or it's an extra zing to the Zang. I don't know what it is, but there's something there that people like, Who are these cats walking in? What's going on here? You know? Like, we don't, I don't know.

Unknown Speaker 7:49
We just,

Unknown Speaker 7:51
we just do it. We do what we do, what we do, do we do? Yeah, no, but yeah, good time and, and we haven't gotten too cold out here in Boston. It's, it's pretty manageable right now. We're still in the 50s.

Unknown Speaker 8:08
Okay, yeah, you know. So we no snow, no snow on the horizon, just rain. Wow, which is cool, yeah.

Unknown Speaker 8:17
But we are, but that I know. Okay, so you are the skier, yep. When does that start for you have you? Do you have snow in the moms yet? So today, I think it's snowing. And I think part of yesterday, the mountain, the local mountain here, technically opened, like a week ago, but they were blowing snow. But when I looked at their live vid cam, I'm like, Nope, I'm not rocking up my skis yet. I'll wait till fresh snow falls. You know, when they get a good, solid base, a good, at least 1215, inch base,

Unknown Speaker 8:52
it should technically the season, which is actually nice and earlier than it was last year, because we didn't really start skiing until middle of December, late December, which was really strange, because the year before, as we all know,

Unknown Speaker 9:05
it was a crazy snow season everywhere,

Unknown Speaker 9:08
but it's kicking up now, Mammoth is open up in central California and so Colorado, I've been getting, you know, I'm on these different I get these different E blasts from different snow ski resorts, so I see what's going on. But yeah, man, I'm, I'm ready to go. I'm excited.

Unknown Speaker 9:28
Are your skis all tuned? Ready to go? Funny you should mention so

Unknown Speaker 9:33
nowadays. So look, you know this, but like I, I worked in the ski industry for years as a kid, right? So seven, I think, I think we, well, you were at, you were just sports chalet, yeah, I was at a place called Alta ski and sport for seven or eight. Oh, yeah, you were at the ski spot. Yeah, for seven years section, but you were at the ski spot. Yeah, we are full on. And I worked as a ski Tech.

Unknown Speaker 10:00
For years, and then certified binding tax, certified boot tech. Look at you, Rosie Rossignol, all of them, you know, had to, had to use the stone grinder, you know, just all that kind of so the other day, I was looking like, well, maybe I'll just take my skis to REI and have them, you know, yeah. And I'm looking at the price, and I'm like, no, like, I'll go. You can't take it anywhere, and you're not going to do as good a job as I can anyway. But unless I, unless I needed the grindstone, you have put it on the machine, that's something different. But

Unknown Speaker 10:36
I'm like, Yeah, I'll buy the vice. I've already got my ski wax and iron and everything else. And my, you know,

Unknown Speaker 10:43
my sharpening tools for the edges. So I'm like, You got room in the garage to do that?

Unknown Speaker 10:48
Oh, yeah, put on the workbench. Yeah. And feel much better about it anyway, because it takes me back. I mean, my favorite smell in the world is ski wax.

Unknown Speaker 10:58
Something about going into a ski shop, and you smell that. It's like, well, probably because it was like, you know, it was my first job. I mean, I was there from I was 16 years old to I was 24 maybe something in there. Yeah, you know. So anyway, so to answer the long way of answering your question, yes, no, I have not got them tuned up yet, but I will be next week or so.

Unknown Speaker 11:23
But yeah, but very excited to to get to get things going. Well, I think we should move on to some music. We should tell our listeners that we have this theme that we're going to do today and run through this was a last minute idea. I don't know how we stumbled upon it. Me going off on some tangent, of course, is where it stood. But we're gonna do a jingle bells theme from three different artists, one being Diana crawl, which is Bijon recorded on that however many years ago that was, and then some years ago now was it? Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 12:02
wow. Recorded summer, oh, five.

Unknown Speaker 12:05
Wow. I know this because this year I got married, okay, yeah,

Unknown Speaker 12:11
don't tell Shannon that dude. I can't just remember that from that, you know? I mean, she

Unknown Speaker 12:16
knows.

Unknown Speaker 12:19
Then we're gonna, we're gonna play you a Brian set server, uh, yeah, Brian sets her version of Jingle Bells. And then we're going to top it off with a version of Jingle Bells by the lovely Dean Martin. I love him because he had that whole, you know, sound drunk thing all the time. Loved it.

Unknown Speaker 12:39
Nailed it, really. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 12:47
well, it kind of, to me, gives a little bit more of a I don't know, it's just a hint of laughter, because, you know me and Christmas songs, and these people doing covers of Christmas songs bums me out. It's just campy, unlike the original versions, and it's just not my thing. Everybody's a caricature of what they think. I

Unknown Speaker 13:07
can't stand it. And you're saying, What about boob like, nope,

Unknown Speaker 13:11
Sinatra, nope. Even in Dean Martin, I'm like, but because he sounds the way he sounds, I'm like, All right, there's at least no drive.

Unknown Speaker 13:21
Yeah. Yeah, that's what it is. And the Brian Setzer thing, you know what it's going to be. It's just for our listeners. It's going to be a full on blues rock Billy version, which is fun, and I'm all about it. But anyway, let's get into your two let's start with your Diana crawl. Why don't you go ahead and introduce it all right? So this is

Unknown Speaker 13:40
album recorded with Diana called Clayton Hamilton jazz orchestra playing Jingle Bells. You're listening to B side morning brew with bees and Niles. A, 91.5k,

Unknown Speaker 16:59
I'm just crazy about horses.

Unknown Speaker 17:02
Welcome back. You're listening, welcome back. You're listening to the B side, morning brew with Beej and Niles here on 91.5k

Unknown Speaker 17:10
and v jazz and more. And that was Jingle Bells by Diana crawl with bees.

Unknown Speaker 17:18
I know, but you know it's whatever adopted it, whatever you want to call it. We were talking off air about what we're doing for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Well, those that are listening what we did a couple days ago, but I'm preparing, you know, I'm I'm, as you said, it's like, oh, you're doing your infamous apple pies, homemade apple pies, yes, but I'm also diving into a chocolate mousse pie. Whoa, that I've got the departure for you. I know I'm doing both. Okay, all right, you got to do the app. I got the recipe, you know, YouTube's got everything. So I looked at the recipe and I, you know, got out that the chocolate, the milk chocolate, and the marshmallows, and the and the, you know, the whipped cream, or the whipping cream and all that. Like I'm looking forward to actually making this thing. It looks like it's fun to make, quite honestly, and I just can't wait to dive in, you know? So it's awesome, yeah, and having people here, here at the house, so, you know, I wanted to try to mix it up a little bit. And of course, you know, you know me, I love Thanksgiving meals, like my absolute favorite, so absolutely I'm doing whole everything, you know, the bird, the homemade, what do you call stuffing, all that kind of good stuff. I like chocolate or cornbread stuffing or regular stuff. I you know, that I haven't tried. I'm doing traditional. So it was my mother's recipe from years ago. So I take that and I change it up a little bit every year though, you know? I mean, try to make it, make it my own. And then I Stuff the turkey with it, and then put some on the side. When the turkeys, you know, I mean, in a different, different oven dish. How about you?

Unknown Speaker 18:52
Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 18:54
Shannon's going, Yeah, it's, well,

Unknown Speaker 18:57
doing two, three pies we're gonna have. All right, all right. Apple crumb, crumb, apple pie.

Unknown Speaker 19:05
Yeah, yeah. So that's so at the end you can get your fork and kind of mash it on the crumbs on the plate. Get those, those last crumbs, good stuff, bro. And then pumpkin pie. Little pumpkin little pumpkin pie. And then

Unknown Speaker 19:22
do you put, I'm sorry, do you put any

Unknown Speaker 19:26
walnuts in it and the pumpkin? Okay, yep, but she is making a bourbon pecan pie. Oh, pecan is what I was looking for. Not Yeah, thank you. Yeah. Take it easy. Bourbon pecan pie. And then my mom's making four cheese, macaroni and cheese. Alright, I'm making my brussels sprouts with bacon, crispy bacon. Yep, nope. And you lost me there. Carrots, twice, whipped potatoes. Okay?

Unknown Speaker 19:59
My.

Unknown Speaker 20:00
Shannon makes a homemade cranberries, like

Unknown Speaker 20:04
not cranberry sauce, but just like cranberries, yeah, they're delicious, yeah.

Unknown Speaker 20:10
And

Unknown Speaker 20:12
I'm gonna get, we're having turkey, yeah? And then I think I'm gonna get a Honey Baked Ham, though, too. Okay, see now, to me the ham thing, I associate more with Christmas or Easter, yeah, but I'm or and Easter, yeah, but I, but I'm with you. And then the Hawaiian sweet rolls, you know? So we have some leftovers, stuff like that. But my brother's probably my brother's in town, so we're gonna come over and watch some football beforehand, so I might get a little work on, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. It's funny when, when, when Ashley comes over tomorrow. I was talking about, you know, like, getting some biscuits. She's like, you know, why don't I make homemade biscuits? I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, you can do that. That's not tough. She's like, Oh, it's super easy. I'll just I'm like, oh yeah, oh yeah. Because I'm all about that Hawaii, those little Hawaiian soft, yeah, but the homemade, I'm with you on those, because those are my fave, yeah. But yeah, when she said homemade, I'm like, oh, okay, all right, you know, I'm sold on that. So, so, yeah, so, yeah, all that, yeah, I'm definitely gonna be super bloated and salted up.

Unknown Speaker 21:22
Just like,

Unknown Speaker 21:25
Yeah, well, I am going to do my 72 hour fast, yeah,

Unknown Speaker 21:30
starting on Monday, yeah, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and next week, yeah, yeah. You kind of have to. It's like, just, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, and to me, like, it starts in the morning, because I'll do an over the top. I make, like, a full on breakfast, you know? I mean, no, no. I mean the day of making Thanksgiving meal. Like, oh yeah, I do a whole big breakfast thing, yeah. And then for this, I did do kind of what to your point, like the charcuterie thing, but I've got instead, I bought some, like, Maple Glazed, you know, mixed nuts, or, like, the pecans and the almonds and, you know, that kind of thing. And then I've got some mixed cheeses, some some crackers and things like that. Yeah, it's going to be simple. It's just going to be like that, yeah, nuts, some, some some cheese crackers, and maybe some slime, maybe. But,

Unknown Speaker 22:20
yeah, yeah.

Unknown Speaker 22:24
Well, since we're on this happy go lucky note, let's move on to our next Jingle Bells version. Jingle

Unknown Speaker 22:31
Bell retrospective. Yeah. So for some of those that are listening to us,

Unknown Speaker 22:37
my new project is more rockabilly, swing kind of thing, I guess more stray cats meets Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, that kind of thing. So I've been listening a lot to that music and having a blast doing so. So since we're on the jingle bells theme, I thought we'd play one of bijons favorite artists, actually, which is the Brian Setzer orchestra

Unknown Speaker 22:59
doing it.

Unknown Speaker 23:04
You know, since Bijon comes from the purest of orchestras, I thought we played some Brian Setzer orchestra. And so this is Brian Setzer, yeah, he's a real deal man,

Unknown Speaker 23:16
doing his rockabilly version of Jingle Bells here on 91.5k U, nave, jazz and more you listen to B side morning brew With beige and Niles. Jingle
